Lions Roar is an independent non-profit foundation whose mission is to communicate Buddhist wisdom and practices in order to benefit people’s lives and our society and to support the development of Buddhism in the modern world.

Why “Lion’s Roar”?
Our name is taken from a quote attributed to the Buddha: “The proclamation of the truth of the dharma is as fearless as a lion’s roar.” In this context “Lion’s Roar” expresses the fearlessness and confidence needed to present the profound truths of dharma, by way of any and all skillful means.

Our Readers Support Our Work

Lion’s Roar Foundation is an independent, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the United States, and a not-for-profit, charitable organization in Canada. We are mission-driven and community-supported.

The Moment is Lion’s Roar magazine’s opening section packed with meditation instructions, advice, Q&As, and more like:

  • From Where I Sit: Up-to-the-moment commentary on social and cultural phenomena as seen through the Buddhist lens.
  • Bodhisattvas: Profiles of individuals realizing their wish to serve others.
  • Heart & Mind: Practical Buddhist wisdom to be applied in everyday situations.
  • How to Practice: Each issue, a Buddhist meditation or other practice, is explained in plain language.
  • Meet A Teacher: Get to know a Buddhist community leader through their answers to some tough questions (and some silly ones too).
  • Beginners Mind: Friendly, helpful answers to all your questions about Buddhism.

Lions Roar magazine’s features include conversations with great Buddhist teachers and other fascinating figures, in-depth teachings on meditation and Buddhist concepts, journalism, first-person stories of how dharma can change lives, and more.

And every issue of Lions Roar magazine features a roundup of the best new Buddhist books, and the “Buddhist Directory,” used by our readers to help them find a practice center wherever they travel within North America.
